If you are about to Buy Tires Online but don't exactly know if you need new tires. Here's a nice little tip; the penny trick.
1) Find a penny and pinch it between your thumb and index finger. Pinch it over his body so his head is showing. Like in the picture.
2) Find on your tire the place where the tread is the smallest.
3) If the tread blocks the top of Abe's head then you still have enough tread to be driving legally.
Why this works: It just happens that the legal limit to how much tread you're allowed to drive on is the exact same distance from the top of a penny to Abe's Head, 2/32 of an inch.
If you can see above Abe's head then its time to go ahead and Buy Tires Online. If you can actually read the "In God We Trust" then that is exactly what you are doing when you drive on those tires.
While I was looking at some stats about people who Buy Tires Online I came across something we all hate to think about.
Oil Prices!
I never really thought about it this way before, but the oil price crisis is infact driving up the cost of tires. Three fold actually.
1) The oil that goes into making the tire
2) The oil that is used to heat/cool the production plant
3) And finally, the oil that goes into the shipping of the tires.
I know everyone hates talking about the rising oil prices. Unfortunetely they're a real problem and it looks like its a problem that is here to stay. It also looks like it affects more parts of our life than just at the gas pump. Think of it this way though. If tire prices in general go up, but you buy tires online from The Tire Rack and save money, then you would have actually spent less overall than the last time you bought tires.
That's why I seriously want you guys to consider if you want to Buy Tires Online. As gas prices rise, so will tire prices.
Think of all the help you can get when you Buy Tires Online. I’m not saying your local store isn’t good quality, what I’m saying is that one store, no matter how great they are, can’t compare to the selection and advice you can find online.
I walked into walmart last week and was pretty impressed with the selection of tires they had. But that’s really just compared to the smaller local shops around town. Even a place like walmart who has tons of room to display things can’t compete when you can virtually see EVERY tire available for your car online.
Another reason why it’s a good thing to atleast check out buying tires online is the advice. There have been plenty of times when a walmart employee(to be fair, there has been plenty of times when they could help) couldn’t help me, or they talked over my head with details that were just above my understanding. With all the reviews and advice you find when you buy tires online you can always find someone that speaks your language.
