It may not seem like a big deal when you Buy Tires Online that you should by 2 or 4 and not 1 or 3.  However, it makes a HUGE difference.

The new tires will always grip better than the old tires.  In rains storms you don't want 1 tire gripping and the other not.  Actually, if you find your tires slipping alot, you may just need to replace them all, but that's a different matter.  I know it stinks, but if your tires aren't new to start and you blow 1 out, you really should replace both in the set.  You can put the old tire that still runs as your spare.

Finally, if you do decide to buy two new tires insist on having them installed as your rear two tires.  The new tires have deeper treads and can funnel water better.  This means that if you do happen upon some slippery surface your back tires will grip better keeping you from fishtailing.  Watch the following short video to see what a car does when it has two brand new tires installed on the front of the car.

Just remember, when you do Buy Tires Online, make sure you buy in pairs and always put the newest pair on the back.

I just wanted to expand on what I wrote. I found this explaination on yahoo answers.

"To expand upon it further when you corner or brake the rear end of the vehicle will want to kick out on you. If the fronts grab and the rear don't you go into a skid, if the rears grab and fronts don't you go straight. On 4wds you need all 4 the same size/design or risk damage to the transfer case"
